Community Ministries @ First Baptist Islamorada

Originally, “Have a Heart Ministry,” now the Community Ministries @ First Baptist Islamorada began in 2000 as an outreach to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community. Over the years God has blessed this ministry and enabled this small church to help thousands of individuals and families each year.

In year one they were blessed to provided sixteen thousand pounds of food or 8 tons of food to the community. Currently, we are distributing roughly 8,000lbs of food to 600+ families, 2400+ individuals each month.

The Food & Clothing Pantry is open from 10am-12pm on Tuesdays and again opens at 6:30 – 7:30 pm on Tuesday nights or by appointments if needed, to offer non-perishable food items for those who are in need of food during the week.

Also, free haircuts are provided once a month from Hair by Deb. Health Screenings and free Dental Care are also offered various times during the year.

We can provide a referral to various social services including social security services, food stamps, Monroe County Social Services, Legal Aid. Members and other community helpers have provided transportation to and from social security as well as minor medical help.

Post-Irma our Community Ministries have expanded to be available on Thursdays each week to provide more access to those in our community in need.
